Is God Still With Us?

God Abandoned America Clipart

Everyone aged three years or older knows what happened a few days ago in San Bernardino, CA.

Described as “the worst terrorist attack in America since 9/11,” two shooters, Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, entered an office Christmas party and violently cut down fourteen lives. The nation reeled from the attack. In response, many politicians offered their “thoughts and prayers” to the victims and their families.

Apparently, some people didn’t appreciate that response.

Shaun King, a contributing author for the New York Daily, responded in kind with a front-page article on the New York Daily Times. The feature picture said it all: “God Isn’t Fixing This.”

Is God Still With Us Insert

In the article, King states “Prayers aren’t working. Another mass shooting prompted another round of silence Wednesday from GOP presidential candidates on the issue of gun control. Instead, while the Democratic presidential wannabes were calling for stricter gun laws in the wake of the San Bernardino massacre, the Republicans were preaching about prayer.”

So my question is, and has been, is God still with us? America, that is?

There’s no question He was present for the birth of our country. I’ll leave it to other more talented authors to speak to that; however, the facts are there: America was founded with her eyes on the Almighty Christ Himself.

So where is He now?

I believe the better question is – is God still blessing America? Is He still blessing us like the famous song says – from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans, white with foam? Is He still giving us more harvest than we can handle, more prosperity than we can fathom, and more abundance than we can fit into our tiny little hands? Is He still chasing us down with undisputable blessings and wonderful overflows?

The answer is simple. No, He is not.

Not as a country. Let’s look at Deuteronomy chapter twenty-eight. For those who don’t know, Deuteronomy 28-30 is a portion of the Bible written as instructions for the then-newbie nation of Israel. It basically says, do this: (x, y, and z) and you’ll be blessed. Do this: (x, y, and z) and you’ll be cursed. It can be applied to any nation, and definitely to America.

Recipe for Success

Blessing Number One: Deuteronomy 28:1-3 says the country following His commands will be blessed both in urban and non-urban areas.

Blessing Number Two: Deuteronomy 28:4 says our children, crops, and livestock will be blessed. Deuteronomy 28:5 says we’ll always have an overflow of food.

Blessing Number Three: Deuteronomy 28:12 says we will lend to many, but borrow from none.

  • Fact: As of today and according to the US Debt clock: US National debt sits at almost nineteen trillion dollars, each citizen owes $58, 274, and each taxpayer owes $157,174

These are not all the blessings promised those who following Him.

 My Response

So, what are you saying, Diane? That America is doomed?

I don’t know. I’m unsure of America’s immediate future. I do know, however, that during the seven-year Tribulation, America – the superpower, the great nation, the strong arm – is silent. Why is that?

Again, not sure. However, we must cling tightly to Jesus as never before.

What does that look like? For me and my family, we will follow Pastor Steve Hadley’s advice and read a proverb a day. Then, we will pray over each one: Lord, what does following this truth look like? How can we do it better?

No longer are we going to follow Him with our lips only.

We are going to follow hard after Christ with our hearts, minds, souls, and strength. I don’t know about you, but I want to ensure I’m on the ark before the rain begins.

Because of His precious promises to His children, we will be safe. We will be tucked in the security of the vessel while it rocks violently from the coming storm. We will cling to the mountainous lifeboat in the thrashing waves knowing we made the right choice. Thank You, Jesus. Only by Your hand.

Will you be able to say the same? Please, dear friend, hear me now.

Oh, Lord Jesus, that you would be with us. We need You now more than ever. Our prayer is sincere and true.

Please, Lord Jesus, come back for us. We are waiting for You. Have You forgotten about us? Surely not. Please wrap us in Your protective covering as only You can, Oh Lord, Oh Emmanuel, Oh God-With-Us…because without You, there is no us.

  1. BELIEVERS BAPTISM BY STEVE FINNELL

There is only one kind of water baptism mentioned under the new covenant—that would be believers baptism.

The examples of baptism in Acts. 1. Acts 2:38-41 Belief preceded water baptism. 2. Acts 8:12-13 Belief preceded water baptism. 3. Acts 8:35-38 Belief precede water baptism. 4. Acts 10:34-48 Belief preceded water baptism. 5. Acts 16:14-15 Belief preceded water baptism. 6. Acts 16:27-34 Belief preceded water baptism. 7. Acts 18:8 Belief preceded water baptism. 8. Acts 19:1-5 Belief preceded water baptism. 9. Acts 22:7-16 Belief preceded water baptism.

There are no examples of unbelievers, under the new covenant, of being baptized in water. Infants and small children are unbelievers. Infants and small children have no need to be baptized because they are not guilty of sin.

John 8:24 “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”(NKJV)

Being baptized in water without believing that Jesus is the Son of God does not wash away sins. Jesus said if you do not believe that He is the Son of God you will die in your sins. Infants and small children are not capable of believing that Jesus is the Son of God. Are they lost? Of course not. Children have no sins of which to repent.

Baptizing an atheist in water will not result in his sins being forgiven.

Water baptism alone does not produce forgiveness of sins for anyone.

Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved…(NKJV)

    Belief always precedes water baptism.

There is no forgiveness without belief.
There is no forgiveness without water baptism.

    Faith alone cannot save.
    Water baptism alone cannot save.

    1. Hi Steve! Thanks for the comment! I absolutely will follow your blog! And by the way, you are cordially invited to subscribe to this one as well. 🙂 (Home Page -> upper left corner -> enter your email address -> confirm in link sent to you.)
I can truly appreciate your explanation re: baptism. I know that’s a confusing topic for many. I agree with all of it except one part: “there is no forgiveness without water baptism.” The reason I believe there is forgiveness with faith alone – and water baptism isn’t necessary but definitely something that you need to do to show the seriousness of your decision to follow Christ – is because of the thief on the cross who proclaimed his belief that Jesus was the Messiah. He wasn’t baptized, yet Jesus said he would be with Him in paradise.
Nonetheless, if you love Jesus and truly follow Him, you’ll want to get baptized. It’s an outward showing of an inward change of heart.
      Thanks Steve! 🙂
