Peace On Earth?

Peace on Earth 2I am horrified.

I’m sure you are, too. If you’re not, it’s only because you’ve chosen to block it out. The world, that is.

Understandably so if you have. It’s crazy out there. Maybe it’s crazy in here, too. Let’s all join the crazy train! Woops, too late…we already have.

As I type these words, the globe is drowning in a sea of mass shootings and terrorism. Just yesterday I watched in agony as fourteen precious lives were cut down by random shooters in San Bernadino, California. It’s still early. There may be more victims on the way. Holy Lord, we are in trouble.

Will it ever stop?

Ironically, it’s Christmas time. A time of peace…supposedly. However, when I look around, I see the opposite.

In my prayer time this morning, I whispered loudly (if that’s possible) to our Father, God, we need peace!!” Immediately my mind was transported to the Peanuts Christmas special. If you’re an eighties kid like me, you know exactly what I mean. Charlie Brown got the creepy Christmas tree. All the characters were at the Christmas pageant. They were dancing around, looking like they needed some serious dance lessons. Linus ends the pageant with his famous monologue about the true meaning of Christmas.

And then he ends with this line: “And on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2:4-14)

Peace? Good will toward men? Where?

Not anywhere I see. Not on the street. Not in the grocery store. Not in the workplace. And certainly not on the television.

But then I see Jesus Christ, my Friend (John 15:15), my Father (2 Corinthians 6:18), my Beloved Guide (Psalm 48:14), the One who told me He’d never let me down (Deuteronomy 31:6). The One who cups me in His precious hand (John 10:29). The One who sings over me at night (Zephaniah 3:17).

And it’s all okay.

My precious, beloved friend, if you’re His child, you will be okay. I don’t know how, but I know you will because God said so. He will take you through trial after storm after mess after chaos after heartache and after loss…because He said so (Psalm 121:7).

Because, let’s face it, no amount of money, beauty, talent, or…whatever can protect you from this world. No, your only security is in the Almighty Christ Himself.

Will there be peace on earth? You bet. It’ll come after the seven-year Tribulation. Until then, buckle your seat belts and hold onto Daddy’s hand.

Only He is our peace on earth.

What are you thoughts?
