This year is an election year. You know this, I’m sure, by every debate, political ad, and newscast you see. It’s everywhere.
Recent campaigns have been marked by one common principal: change. President Obama promoted this during his campaigns, and Donald Trump followed suit, pledging to make America great again.
However, these promised changes often fail to come to fruition. Oh sure, maybe there are changes – and some even for the better. However, with these positive changes also come negative ones.
However, political change – true political change – is coming. And its effects will be far-reaching and dramatic.
Someday soon (perhaps very soon), Jesus Christ Himself is going to return to earth as a physical man, just as He was when He ascended to Heaven around the year 30AD. When He returns, He will establish a new political system which will triumph the current one.
Here’s what the new system will look like:
Knowledge of the Bible will spread like wildfire. All Biblical truths will infect every part of the world. Biblical knowledge will spread from Jerusalem, the new Capital, and reach all continents, countries, governments, and establishments (Isaiah 9:6-7).
What’s best is that everything will be peaceful (Isaiah 11:9). Wars will cease. There will be no need for peace treaties. Nuclear bombs will go away. Finally, our peace on earth will arrive.
Every person – or family – will have access to food on their own land. They will own property which will produce food (presumably enough for the whole family) and no one will threaten to overtake another’s land (Micah 4:4).
Every person will have God’s Spirit within them. God’s ways – His thoughts, desires, and wishes – will be written into the code of every person alive (Joel 2:28). Every person will instinctively follow God’s laws.
Doesn’t this sound amazing? And progressive?
A few months ago, a friend and I were complaining about how tough it is in today’s workforce. Corruption abounds, disingenuity is the order of the day, and unfairness seems normal. We longed aloud for the day when goodness is preferred, truth is condoned, and justice prevails.
Then I remembered that it’s coming.
Yes, there will be a day when Christ rules this earth. He will establish the government as it should have been all these centuries – with only good qualities. He will rule in fairness and justice. He will lead an effort to restore to us all we have lost. Everyone will live in true – not forced or false – peace.
I can hardly wait.
Until then, however, keep your heads up. Every day that passes is a day closer to this utopian system. When we get there, we’ll barely remember these days of struggle. Keep heart, my Friend.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. (Isaiah 9:6b-7a)
